An international registration holder in the Madrid System may extend the geographic scope of a registration’s protection. A procedure called the “subsequent designation to a registration” extends an international registration’s scope to members of the Madrid Union for whom either no designation has been recorded to date, or for whom the prior designation is no longer in effect.
