All U.S. patent applications are to be published promptly after 18 months from the earliest filing date to which a priority claim is made, but inventors may petition the USPTO for earlier publication. The “American Inventors Protection Act of 1999” provides this timetable so U.S. patent applications are published in a manner similar to most other countries.
