11 Day Power Play Community Shift 2019
We all know how important cancer research is. We have made strides to improve our understanding of cancer. But we can always go further, and you can also help improve our understanding and help fight cancer! The 11 Day Power Play Community Shift 2019 is set for summer and will be raising funds to benefit cancer research and wellness programs!
So what is the 11 Day Power Play?
Here’s a little bit more on the 11 Day Power Play from their website:
“This summer, more than 2,500 pairs of skates will hit the ice to play in the 2019 11 Day Power Play Community Shift to help in the fight against cancer! The 11-day game will be played in continuous shifts at Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY. This important event supports The 11 Day Power Play, raising critically-needed funds for cancer research and wellness programs at Roswell Park, Camp Good Days and Make-A-Wish WNY. While it is physically challenging to play in a marathon hockey game, it’s a walk in the park compared to what most endure in their battle against cancer. Cancer is a disease that touches everyone, and The 11 Day Power Play wants to make an impact in our community. In the past two years, The 11 Day Power Play has raised nearly $2.5 million supporting cancer causes in Western New York.”

Our very own Vincent LoTempio is part of the 11 Day Power Play too!
Vincent LoTempio is also participating in the 11 Day Power Play Community Shift 2019! Vince is also an avid hockey player who has been a big part of the Western New York community. Being part of the event, Vince also has a fundraiser page that is part of the 11 Day Power Play for cancer research and wellness programs.

When is the 11 Day Power Play?
The following dates and description are set from the 11 Day Power Play’s events page:
“This summer, the first 11 Day Power Play Community Shift, an 11-day hockey game open to all, raised more than 1.28 million dollars for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Camp Good Days and Make-A-Wish Western New York. In 2019, we’re going to beat that. From July 5 – 15, 2019, nearly 2,900 players will complete more than 250 hours of continuous hockey.”
As mentioned earlier, the event will take place at Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY.

More about the 11 Day Power Play
Mike and Amy Lesakowski share many things in life, including a deep love of family, a passion for hockey and, unfortunately, a personal experience with cancer. Amy is a cancer survivor and Mike, is not only organizing the event, but also playing in honor of his mother, Evelyn who passed away from cancer in May 2016 at the age of 62.
Fed up with the hardship caused by this deplorable disease and fueled by their love of hockey, Mike and Amy, along with a very determined group of Buffalo friends, were inspired to take action. So they set a goal to break the record for the world’s longest hockey game while raising money for cancer research.
After breaking the record—and raising $1.2 million—they’re just getting started. The organization is committed to raising money, fighting cancer and supporting our community.
