Interview with LoTempio Copyright Client Solomon Schmidt
Solomon Schmidt was only 12 years old when he wrote his first book, U.S. History Bites. Then, at age 13, he wrote the second book in his “History Bites” series called, US. Presidential History Bites.
Now at age 14, he has written the third book in the series called, J.R.R. Tolkien History Bites. We asked Solomon to tell us a little bit about his business and his book ideas.
Solomon lives in New York with his parents and three siblings. He loves God, his family, his church, reading, studying history, building Legos, eating, and making films.
He really hopes that his books will inspire you to learn more about the amazing history of the United States, the fascinating lives of all the American presidents, and also about one of the 20th century’s most beloved authors, J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit).
What is the name of your business?
History Bites. We are located here in Buffalo, NY.
Tell us about your background and what exactly you are trying to accomplish.
We are working to teach children and adults about history in a fun, easy-to-remember way. I have loved reading and history since I was in primary school.
History Bites is an educational book series for children. U.S. History Bites is the first book in the series. It is a beautiful 140 page full color masterpiece that will not only draw kids in and maintain their attention, but most importantly, help them learn significant events from American history in a fun and engaging way.
(And grown-ups, don’t be surprised…you’ll be learning right along with the kiddoes.) Then, at age 13, I created a 280 page full color second book in the “History Bites” series all about the forty-five U.S. presidents (including Donald Trump) called U.S. Presidential History Bites.
And, at age 14, I wrote the third book in the series called J.R.R. Tolkien History Bites. I want you to learn about the life and works of one of the 20th century’s most beloved authors, J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit).
I have been involved with History Bites for three years, my team is made of of me and my parents.
How did your idea come about?
I was playing ping pong with my dad in the basement talking about history and things that I am excited about, and he recommended that I write a history book for kids. I thought yea I could do that. I have a passion for history and believe every child can and should learn history at a young age.
It started with just a few ideas and the next thing you know I wrote three books.
As a startup entrepreneur, what type of lessons could you give to inventors and people with new ideas as to how to bring their ideas to fruition?
Work hard and persevere. Remember that anything can be learned and no idea is impossible. Get out and network. I travel all over the country with my family to present my books at book fairs and educational conventions.
I sign up as an exhibitor and speaker. This week I am traveling to Atlanta to the Teach Them Diligently Home School Convention.
It was amazing when they sent out the email to advertise the convention and they included my picture as one of the speakers.
I have learned so much since becoming an author and public speaker. I even learned the importance of registering the copyrights of my books.
